Story spoilers
Hanyuu had appeared to Rika throughout her life before gaining the power to interact with others and taking the identity of Rika's distant relative, Hanyuu Furude. Her spirit-like form can change with her mood until she becomes physical. She later reveals that she was sacrificed for the sins of the village and asked her own daughter, Ouka Furude, to kill her. Hanyuu is also responsible for the endlessly repeating June 1983, which she created in an attempt to save Rika from being murdered.
