Grim

Grim is the protagonist's magical-beast partner and a first-year student of Ramshackle Dorm. Loud, boastful, and claiming to be a genius, he calls himself the boss and dreams of becoming a great mage. He dislikes tedious work and ordinary lessons, which may explain his academic weakness. He is eager to find shortcuts.
