Story spoilers
Five years later Gauche is reported missing and eventually reappears as the letter-stealing marauder Noir, having lost his memories after returning alive from "the light." In manga chapter 28, Lag shoots him through the heart with a heart bullet in an attempt to restore him, leaving him in a coma. At the end of manga chapter 37, Gauche awakens still identifying as Noir, though traces of feeling for Lag and Sylvette remain.
