Eiri Uesugi is a popular romance novelist from Kyoto known for an emotionally reserved, sarcastic, and caustic personality that contrasts with the love stories he writes. He first meets Shuuichi in a park and bluntly dismisses his lyrics.

Repeated encounters eventually bring Eiri and Shuuichi into a romantic relationship. Eiri's present demeanor may stem from the Kitazawa incident; as a teenager, he had been bright and easygoing.
