Story spoilers
The Mirage Master is eventually unmasked as Yung himself. He had been expelled from the Pokémon Institute because his Mirage research was considered cruel, leaving him bitter and desiring revenge. He seeks to create a supposedly flawless Pokémon. Using stolen data, he produces a Mirage Mewtwo, but Ash's Pikachu defeats it with help from the Mirage Mew Yung had dismissed as flawed. Yung then disappears into his burning laboratory; no body is recovered, so his final fate remains uncertain.
