Story spoilers
Before becoming a delinquent, Shinagawa was a hard-working top student at Daishi Chugaku. He became involved in stopping delinquents who were interfering with his academic rival Shizuku Hachioji, an incident that led to his expulsion, loss of interest in studying, and adoption of his current hairstyle.
