Story spoilers
Chise's dislike of school stems from being repeatedly excluded by her classmates and struggling to make friends. Her fear of being left out again influences a Kaiju Seed she finds, transforming it into the loyal Goldburn and making both of them valuable to Gauma's team. By the end of the series, Chise has worked through her emotional difficulties and is ready to return to school.
