Story spoilers
The first animal Chihiro revives is his cat Babu, and the first human is Rea Sanka. It is also strongly suggested that Chihiro and Mero's mother was a zombie who left them because of the danger posed by her condition. Later, during a fire in an abandoned hotel, Chihiro confesses his love to Rea as she is affected by eater confusion, allowing her to regain herself in time to protect him from the collapsing roof.
