Asura is a boy of great strength. As a baby, his mother tried to eat him because of the famine, and he seems to retain vague memories of that time. At first he is unable to speak and resorts to cannibalism and murder. After meeting a wise monk, he becomes close to Wakasa.
Story spoilers
As time passes, Asura becomes more kind-hearted and stops eating or killing people. His jealousy of Wakasa's lover leads him to try to hurt him, leaving Wakasa extremely disappointed. Though sad, Asura later realizes the meaning of having a heart and decides to follow the path shown by the monk; when he grows up, he becomes a monk himself.
