Keima Katsuragi is an expert at dating simulation games, where his techniques can win over virtually any heroine. Real romance is another matter entirely, and his gaming skill has little obvious value outside a screen.

That changes when a cheerful demon hunter named Elsie suddenly appears. She needs Keima's help freeing girls who have secretly been possessed by demons, turning his carefully practiced knowledge of fictional romance into something he must apply to real people. The World God Only Knows builds its comedy around the gap between Keima's mastery of dating games and the much less predictable relationships he now has to navigate.
