The Wind Rises

Nearsightedness prevents Jirou Horikoshi from becoming a pilot, but he still dreams of building airplanes. Inspired by Italian aviation pioneer Giovanni Battista Caproni, he leaves home to study aeronautical engineering at Tokyo Imperial University. His arrival coincides with the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, during which he helps a maid serving Naoko Satomi's family. The Wind Rises follows his ambitions against the upheaval of the decades leading to Japan's surrender in World War II.
