Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl

Sakuta Azusagawa is enjoying his second year of high school with his girlfriend, Mai Sakurajima, when his first crush suddenly reappears. The problem is that Sakuta encounters two versions of Shouko Makinohara: one is a middle-school student, while the other is already an adult. The older Shouko's presence begins straining Sakuta's relationship with Mai, and the mystery grows more serious when he learns that the younger Shouko is gravely ill. As these impossible circumstances overlap, the scar on Sakuta's chest begins to hurt again, tying his personal relationships to another unexplained phenomenon.
