Plastic Memories

In the near future, humanlike androids called Giftia have become part of everyday life. Created by SA Corp., they possess unusually strong emotions and human qualities, but their technology comes with a fixed service life that makes continued operation dangerous once that limit is reached. To deal with expired Giftia, the company maintains a terminal service responsible for retrieving them. Tsukasa Mizugaki, a new employee in that department, is partnered with Isla, herself a Giftia. Their work involves collecting androids whose time has run out, placing Tsukasa directly inside the emotional and practical consequences of a technology designed to seem human but unable to last indefinitely.
