Kouichi Sakakibara transfers into a new school and immediately senses that something is wrong with his class. His classmates share a tense, frightening atmosphere and seem determined not to discuss the secret hanging over them. At the center of Kouichi's growing unease is Mei Misaki, a mysterious girl who captures his attention even though the other students appear strangely unaware of her presence.

As Kouichi tries to understand Mei and the silence surrounding his class, a phenomenon known as the Calamity begins. Students start losing their lives, turning the unexplained tension he noticed on arrival into an increasingly deadly mystery. With his classmates unwilling or unable to speak openly, Kouichi must piece together what connects Mei, the class's hidden rules, and the disaster unfolding around them.
